Fake Job seekers aim to scam tech companies into hiring them

Voice authentication startup Pindrop Security posted a recent job opening, and to the hiring team one candidate caught their attention, seemingly being best fit for the position.

Russian coder “Ivan” seemed like the perfect candidate, until one of the recruiters noticed during the video interview that his facial expressions didn’t match up with his words. Little did they know “Ivan” who the company has now named “Ivan X” is a scammer using deepfake software and generative AI tools in a bid to get hired by the tech company.

There have been cyber threats for decades, but this takes cyber security threats to a whole another level. Not only do job seekers have to worry about potentially losing job opportunities to AI but now to add losing job opportunities to scammers using AI generated profiles is mind blowing.

I for one am a strong believer and supporter of AI technology. The way the world is evolving and artificial intelligence being used around the globe to create new streams of income and technology is astoundin, but this is very concerning.

Pindrop CEO & co-founder Vijay Balasubramaniyan said "Gen AI has blurred the line between what it is to be human and what it means to be machine," Balasubramaniyan said. "What we're seeing is that individuals are using these fake identities and fake faces and fake voices to secure employment, even sometimes going so far as doing a face swap with another individual who shows up for the job."

As many Americans and human beings globally, tend to see the upside to the rise of Artifical Intelligence, i’ve seen an equal amount of people who are not too fond of it. The rise of scammer job seekers puts these major tech corporations at risk, to have major data breach and customers info leaks.

Although I have known about cyber attacks for a long time, this is my first time hearing about fake job seekers groups using these tools to get hired at jobs. In recent years these criminal groups have spread beyond North Korea, Russia, China, Malaysia, and South Korea. I'm going to keep an eye on the development of this story moving forward.
